Holiday thoughts….
I had recently written about having the energy to perform at work, through being and working in purpose. This purpose gives endless energy but what about when things stop due to holidays and more to the point because of Christmas and New Year holidays.
For me, taking this break, is not tortuous, and slowing down and getting out of routine is beneficial but I don’t like coming to a complete stop. Having some purpose on a daily basis is more beneficial to me and helps me to keep the momentum going. Holidays are good provided your not depleted or dreading the return.
So, for some of us, this total break is unwanted and for some might really just be at the wrong time for them depending on other personal plans but also work plans and schedules. However, having time off in the Christmas and New Year period again I know is positive for there is a lot to benefit from it but it does make it hard for those businesses that close down for a longer period and extend the break as it really doesn’t work for everyone. It can be a battle to have that much time off or you know with what’s ahead that it would be more productive for you to start back early to get on top of the business etc. Why can’t there be more flexibility around this? It takes real effort to get back into the swing of things which isn’t ideal for the business or individuals.
Don’t forget work offers much more than just work itself. It provides purpose, routine, dedication, commitment, interaction with other people which is essential and the opportunity to share.
So, for those hanging out for a break or dreading returning to work, ease into it as best as you can. Organise your work and goals again as best you can. I also have to ask are you living and working in purpose? Not that I am saying you aren’t as there may be other reasons you might be dreading returning to work. Are you committed to your work, whatever it is and I mean whatever it is? Every job matters and is equally important and each job has purpose. Do you appreciate what you do? Do you bring the unique part of you to the job? I do! For me I help businesses (being of service to them) to get an ROI from their people and create work environments that support and prevent mental health issues. This allows me to make a true difference in society for business and individuals.
